Misfuelling is reported to take place on average 150,000 times a year, that’s around once every 3 and a half minutes.
The majority of misfuelling incidents occur when unleaded petrol is put into a diesel vehicle. On most diesel vehicles it is simple to misfuel as the unleaded petrol pump nozzle is of a smaller diameter than a diesel pump nozzle.
With the rise of multi car ownership and with modern quieter diesels, it’s easy to see why so many incidents occur.
